Chapter Seven; Give A Little Love
Dear Reader,
I wasn't planning on writing a blog today but I've been at work and felt enamoured to write about brands that I love that are doing their bit for the world and the people in it.
So my company is running an event next month called The Healthy Living Show, our website is www.healthy-living-show.com if you felt so inclined. So basically we're bringing healthy food, drinks, products together and inviting the public to come and buy their products. It's a mixture of foods, clothing, make up, fitness, eco products, charities and many more but the main point is about living a healthy life. Be that vegan, vegetarian, paleo, organic or just being eco-friendly; I call it happy healthy living.
Anywho, back to my point...I'm an avid tangent goer offer, the key is to remember the point that you were attempting to make. Chances of which are vastly improved by the fact I'm writing all this down.
As I was saying, back to my point, today I found a brand that are exhibiting at our event and after reading a little bit about them found that there were doing something pretty awesome...
Cork Yogis (which, truth be told, I keep reading as York Corgi's) is a company that makes yoga mats, nothing too different there, but wait, they make their yoga mats from sustainably sourced cork. One point to them for being so eco-conscious, super cool. But that, my friends, is not were their story ends. For every mat you buy, money you have spent goes towards taking a girl in India from sex slavery and giving her a job. ONE MILLION POINTS to these guys for that. What a ruddy wonderful way to give back to the world.
So when you buy a mat from them, you know that they money you spent is going to a good cause, and also, you're buying a yoga mat, which thus means you're doing yoga which equals fitness which equals happy-healthiness. Winners all round!
Check them out and grab a mat www.corkyogis.com or come and have a chat with the at our event in October!
This got me thinking about a couple of brands I love which also do amazing things for the world;
Numero Uno; TOMS
Now most people have heard of TOMS and their One For One policy but if not here's a little run down. The One For One policy means that by buying a pair of shoes for yourself from TOMS you are also buying a pair of shoes for a child in need in another country. They have provided over 2 million children with shoes over the years, how bloody great is that? And they're great shoes too, I've already owned 3 pairs, such a cool brand.
So when you're looking for your next pair of shoes, head to www.toms.co.uk
El Nombre 2; Gandys
Now Gandys is a (drumroll please) FLIPFLOP BRAND! How awesomely hilarious, forward slash, v clever. However the back story to the brand isn't as happy. Gandys was started by two brothers whose parents were killed in the 2004 tsunami in Sri Lanka whilst they were all travelling around the world. They created Gandys as a monument to their parents and for every pair of flip flops you buy, money goes towards helping orphans around the world. They call it Orphans For Orphans, how much more beautiful can you get?
So you know where to go when you need to buy your next pair or flip flops, hell, even if you don't need to! Go out there and grab yourself a pair of TOMS and a pair of Gandys and help those who need it.
www.gandyslondon.com
We can't always help charities and those in need in the big ways that we want to so buying something that you need and that you're going to use is a wonderful way of giving that little bit back.
Thank you to all of the brands out there who use their profits to give to those less fortunate and thank you to everyone who buys those products and gives what little they can to the people around the world who need it.
Group hug, dear reader, that's what the world needs.
