Chapter Fifteen; Sisters In Arms
Dear Reader,
Today I saw one of my closest friends, I call her my sister because except for the whole, different parents, no blood relation thing, we're sisters. We grew up together, we wore matching outfits, we went on holidays together and we definitely fought like sisters. So here we are 20 something years later, sisters.
We've got to that stage that I feel most sisters reach eventually where you stop arguing so much. I don't know when it happened or how it happened but we just stopped. We stopped annoying one another quite as much and embraced each others faults a little more. It's nice, you know, you suddenly become even closer than you were before.
So one of my favourite things about my sister is her ability to forget things, it's fantastic and it makes me laugh so hard I cry sometimes. It's silly things like forgetting the names of objects or people and it makes her who she is, it's ruddy wonderful.
I might love it a little more because I always end up telling her the right answer so thank you sis for always making me feel like I know stuff. It's nice to feel you know stuff.
We, like many other friends/sisters, have a name for each other. It's Jim, for short. For long it's 'Jim Jimm Jimmy Jimm Jimmy Jim Jim' because for some reason we decided it would be funny. It's a line from 'Muppet Treasure Island' where Billy Connelly is dying and he wants to tell Jim something but accidentally grabs Gonzo by the nose.
Incidentally, if you were to ask her where 'Jim' was from, I guarantee you she wouldn't be able to tell you...
And we have yet to decide whether it's because I have a weirdly specific memory or she doesn't have one at all.
Either way, it always made us laugh.
I was thinking today, after one said brilliant episodes, of all the funny things Jim has said over the years, which lead me to remembering that I had written some of these down! Hurrah I say, she may say otherwise but hence the lack of a functioning name, she has nothing to worry about, Jim's identity lies safely with me...and anyone who reads this blog and knows me...so kinda safe...
Luckily for us she's a good sport and thick skinned.
I'll start off with the dialogue that got me thinking about writing this blog piece;
Context - We're at a lake, surrounded by various types of wild fowl, in England.
Jim; Are those mongeese?
Me; Pardon me?
Jim; Are they mongeese?
Me; Well considering the Mongoose is a ferret like animal that eats snakes, I imagine not.
*ridiculous amount of laugher ensues*
Me; Where are you looking?
Jim; *points at black and white bird*
Me; That's a bloody Moorhen!
Me; Have you ever wondered what ATM stands for
G; No but now you mention it...
*serious thinking occurs*
Jim; *Shouts from within bathroom* ATM...A FOR URGENT! *silence* OH NO...THAT BEGINS WITH AN E!
Jim; *singing* Oh Sandy! You came and you...is that right?
Me; No...
Me; (Talking about my drama performance for GCSE) So we've all learnt Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech and...
Jim; OH! I know Martin Luther King! He made black people...happy?
Me; Well that's one way of putting it...
I hope, Dear Reader that these quotes bought a smile to your face as they have always done mine. There have been many hilarious times and I hope there will be many more to come. Such a wonderful thing it is to be able to laugh with a friend.
Goodnight,
Jim Jimm Jimmy Jim Jimmy Jim Jim
